About Gary Olson
Gary Olson is a mild-mannered insurance analyst by day, but here on Windypundit Gary transforms into a mild-mannered media critic. What I'm saying is that Gary is kind of mild. He's not exactly a crazed ideological hothead. Which sort of raises the question of what he's doing here with me and Joel.
Basically, I read his old blog, Gary on TV (and stuff) and I liked the way he wrote. I didn't always agree with what he said, but he said it well, and that's important. I thought he deserved more exposure than he was getting.
Gary is well-qualified to be a media critic: In addition to his degree in speech and the performing arts---I keep hoping he'll give me a few tips on videoblogging---he has the most impressive home theater system of anyone I know. He was into Laserdisc video before Laserdisc video was cool.
It probably also didn't hurt that Gary has been a friend of the family forever. He's been a very dear friend to my wife for many years, and in fact he gave her away at our wedding.
Although Gary has settled down now, during his young and single days he was romantically linked to such Hollywood starlets as Mary McDonnell, Allison Hannigan, and Cassandra Peterson, but he swears that he and Summer Glau were only ever just good friends.
If Gary doesn't like my bio of him, he's welcome to wake up and write his own. Also, one of the paragraphs above is full of lies. See if you can figure out which one.
